3 things to know if you take the bus from Yangon to Ngapali

On October 15th, we left Penang to go to Yangon. It was an unexpected trip since we were planning to stay in Malaysia until the end of our 3-month visa (November 7th).

We got an opportunity to work as supervisors for 2 new hostels in Ngapali. And as I’m writing this, it’s our 5th day here. So far so good 🙂

People are friendly and smiling although it’s difficult to communicate with them. But anyway… I’ll talk more about our working experience in an other article.

In this post, I’d like to share with you some stuff I thought might be good to know if you ever decide to go to Ngapali from Yangon.

Here you go 🙂

1. It will take some time to see the beach

Our bus left the terminal at 5 PM, although it was supposed to leave at 4h45 PM. On the way the bus stopped for dinner around 8 PM and for immigration around 1 AM. When we arrived at Ngapali it was almost 8 AM. So yep, almost 15 h of bus. I did worse in the past, though.

2. You will hardly be able to sleep

The road is bumpy and the seats are not that big for most people. Luckily, I’m small (1.50 m/4’11”) so I can shrunk myself on the seat on a fetus position if I wanna sleep. And my boyfriend serves me as a pillow.

If possible, bring some ear plugs and a night mask. One of the passenger at the back was snoring a loooooot. Also, they put a movie (Burmese drama). I think the TV was on until 9 PM. but my memory is fading.

3. There’s no bathroom in the bus

Don’t drink too much liquid. The bus stops from time to time but we were too sleepy to get out of it. And since no one was speaking English, I was afraid of being left behind haha
