English is not my first language
I learned to read and write more easily than I speak because I was afraid to talk—I sucked at it, so I would never put myself in a situation where I had to talk.
I was a great listener but not a good enough speaker. Even though I could understand perfectly someone talking to me, I was having a hard time replying because I was still thinking in French.
I knew the only way for me to learn how to speak fluently was to be surrounded only by people speaking in English to me. And actually that was one of the reasons I decided to travel on my own in 2015.
Now, not only I am speaking English every day (thanks to Davidson), I’m also writing.
Get comfortable being uncomfortable.
Note: I first wrote this text last year but never thought about publishing it until now 🙂
