On trusting the Divine Providence

Trusting the Divine Providence is to be certain that, as long as we are seeking first the kingdom of God (Mathew 6:33), all things will work together for our good (Romans 8:28).

Well, even the least of those who believe in God knows that he is all powerful and can do whatever he wants, and that he knows better than us. Nevertheless, sometimes we feel like we have trouble trusting His providence.

Turns out, it’s not really that we don’t trust Him. It’s that we reject anything other than our will. We want to trust the God will do what we want Him to do. And when the things we want don’t happen (or the things we don’t want to happen do), we’re frustrated, mad even.

Trusting the Divine Providence requires us to distrust ourselves. Like Socrates, we should repeat “I know that I know nothing,” and welcome all things that come to us, pleasant or not, knowing that all events are necessary for our good, as long as we are seeking first the kingdom of God.
